Toronto ON –– In an effort to stay in playing shape, the Toronto Maple Leafs will play four games against the Montreal Canadiens in exhibition matchups during the Leaf’s playoff bye week. Aside from keeping the rust off of Toronto, the series will give a chance for the Montreal brass to get a better look at their off-season needs and to get Carey Price some playing time.
The Leafs can’t afford to sit for two weeks with a collision course with Boston in the third round. We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves but a second-round exit would be devasting to a team whose province has banned golf, the cliche post-playoff elimination activity. Their inevitable 7th game loss to Boston in the third round should buy them enough time to let the golf courses re-open.
For now, they can play a few worry-free games against their longtime rivals and gain some confidence, albeit not much, all while staying in tip top shape. It’s a win-win exhibition for both fans and players.
