Montreal QC — Having been forced to block off non-essential items in their stores, early Christmas shoppers at Dollarama are beginning to feel the heat. Normally they like to have their Christmas items set up right after Easter although some think they would set up for Christmas 2034 right now if they could. The current lockdown is scheduled to last until at least May 20th which means any hope of having it set up before June is getting slimmer by the day.
This is a big blow for those who like to have their garland picked out by the time the weather hits 20 degrees. Some people just like to beat the Christmas rush and there is no better time than July to do that. Now you’re going to have all the Canada Day shoppers seeing the best wrapping paper and thinking, I better get this now before it’s gone.
This pandemic has shown that maybe it’s best to leave the Christmas aisle out all year just in case these types of restrictions come back. January is a month people typically want to forget about the holidays but maybe it’s not worth it to take the aisle away just for one month or two.
Regardless of what happens now, it’s almost guaranteed that come September, there will be a massive rush for Christmas items because those that start in June will be shopping with those who normally start their Christmas shopping in the fall. There’s no avoiding it, it’s going to be a messy holiday season now.
