TORONTO — It’s been a rough year for the Weeknd when it comes to winning awards. After being shut out of the Grammys, he has now been shut out of the Canadian Car of The Year Awards.
He told his label that he no longer wants his name submitted to the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada for recognition after being left out of consideration despite running so smoothly and having a flawless body.
“I think it’s clear that when a Mazda wins the car of the year not once but two years in a row that there is something suspicious going on there,” the Weeknd was reported as saying. “I didn’t see the Mazda3 at the Super Bowl or on Saturday Night Live. If the Hyundai Elantra won, I don’t think I’d be so upset but to lose to Mazda is a kick to the face”
The Weeknd’s boycotting of awards shines a light on how the winners are chosen, whether it is by merit or by who showers the committees the best. Free tire changes for life can really entice a voter to maybe choose something they may not have otherwise. The Weeknd is simply not buying anyone tires, ever.
“They can keep their awards, I’ll stick to making popular non-Grammy winning music.” he said as
walked away drove off.
