Newmarket ON — Flipping through the pages and intently looking at the pictures to figure out what the book is about, young Maddie couldn’t imagine doing the same to non-award winning children’s books. In an interview with Maddie, we asked her what it is about books with medals that appeal to her so much. She replied, “I like pictures and puppies.” Maddie’s mom tells us that her daughter has nothing against books with no awards shown on the cover but it’s just a personal choice not to fill her mind up with that garbage.
She did give a legitimate effort once when she read Clifford The Big Red Dog but only made it though the first three pages before she realized that it was dry and lacking character development. The point should be that she enjoys reading and that she continues learning to read so that one day she can start tackling the New York Times Bestseller lists. And only the bestsellers list.
